1971 Corvette Convertible - #'s Matching 2 Top Roadster Ontario Orange!

By now, you've probably memorized most of the Corvette story. From Zora Arkus-Duntov to the Mako Shark to the bankruptcy years, each of the car's seven generations has its own key moments and cast of colorful characters. At this point, the third generation Corvette accounts for the middle section of the brand's lineage and, looking back, it's a remarkably appropriate car to hold that place. With visible nods to both Chevrolet's heritage and future, examples like this sweet Ontario Orange roadster are finding firm footing in a collector market that will inevitably grow stronger. The subject of a thorough, frame-up restoration, this numbers-matching Stingray features options like a storied L48, a tough Muncie 4-speed and 4-wheel disc brakes that make it both fun and surprisingly capable. There's never a bad time to buy a good Corvette, so if you're looking to add an impressive C3 to your collection, Future Classics LLC has the car for you!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The color looks an awful lot like Ontario Orange, one of the factory colors in 1971. The repaint is a excellent quality job applied to straight, undamaged fiberglass. Obviously a well-maintained car, there was just no need to completely disassemble the car to correct everything at the molecular level. But to my eye, the prep was excellent, the gaps are good, and the paint is deep and glossy. Not too dark and not too light, it's an understated color that makes you think that the Corvette has grown up and matured a bit. This is a C3 that you can look dignified in while driving. In fact, I'd call it exactly the kind of car you'll enjoy waxing on Saturday afternoon before hitting the local cruise with the top down, and it'll get a lot of appreciative glances along the way.

Chrome and stainless is excellent, and the emblems must be reproduction items because they look so good. The '71s are popular today because they still carried chrome bumpers and a real grille in the nose, a look that still looks good today, 40 years later. Out back, the traditional Corvette round taillights are excellent. This one is equipped with a factory alarm which has a key hole in the rear valence. The glass is very good with no major nicks or scratches. It is said that over $50k was spent on the restoration and it shows. The striking color combination really makes this C3 Corvette fit the bill when it comes to collectability.

ENGINE

The original numbers matching L48 350 engine is detailed to perfection and is complimented with power steering, aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, Edelbrock carburetor, ceramic coated headers, new water pump, Indy cylinder heads, new aluminum radiator, new Delco battery, and finished off with polished finned valve covers along with the proper ignition shielding. Put all this together and you have a very dependable turn key Stingray.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Power is transferred to the 4 - speed manual transmission which is backed by a 3.36 posi rear axle. Power 4 - wheel disc brakes provide stopping power. New Wilwood front disc brakes and Delclo rear calipers were recently done. Ride comfort is handled by Bilstein HD shocks front and rear. Take a look underneath and you will see a very clean and solid frame which houses a nice sounding dual exhaust system with factory tips. All this rides on a set of rally wheels with new BFG radial tires. When you move through the gears of the Hurst shifter and you hear the engine roar through the dual exhaust you will know you made the right decision on this beautiful turn key Stingray!

INTERIOR

Slip in to this Stingray's correct Black interior and settle on one of its comfortable vinyl buckets. Those seats are as original, with correct lap belts framing their bases. The carpet below them was replaced, even in the cargo area, where you'll find a small amount of storage space. The door panels at the edges of that carpet are, like the rest of the car's side panels, pliable and crack-free. Top dead center, the original pushbutton AM/FM radio along with the factory gauges fill the center console. From the driver's seat, a satin-spoke steering wheel laps a factory tachometer. And all that hardware unites to create a simple, comfortable cockpit that's befitting of a performance oriented brand like Corvette. Once you remove the optional factory vinyl hardtop you can pop open the rear hatch to display the new black soft top. However you wish to display this Stingray you will sure make a lasting impression!

As the value of third generation Corvettes continues to grow, clean, numbers-matching cars like this Ontario Orange roadster will become serious investment pieces. With a strong color combination, an original drivetrain and a nice restoration, this C3 is not only a fun car to own, but also a great example of the brand's evolution. Whether you're a seasoned Chevy owner or a potential first-time buyer, don't miss your chance to park this sweet Stingray in your garage!
