1969 Cougar XR7 - Ground Up Restoration 351 V8!

Even though the Ford Mustang may have inspired the pony car era there are plenty of other options available if you are in the market for a pony car. Barracudas, Camaros, and Challengers are often popular choices for restorations and custom builds. However, one pony car that doesn't get as much limelight as others is the Mercury Cougar. When you take a close look at examples like this 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 it's hard to understand why. This Cougar features incredible styling, a legendary drivetrain, and is being offered from Future Classics LLC.

Originally leaving the Dearborn, Michigan plant in January 1969, this Cougar XR-7 was delivered to Williams Ford Inc. West Hartford CT. The beneficiary of a ground up restoration with great attention to detail, today the Cougar sits as an amazing testament to how incredible these cars were when they rolled off the showroom floor.

This true XR-7 also comes with a Marti Report, and it breaks down the original options as:

* Cougar XR - 7 2 Door Hardtop
* 351 - 4V V - 8 Engine
* FMX Select Shift Automatic Transmission
* 3.00 Conventional Rear Axle
* Power Steering
* Power Front Disc Brakes
* Pushbutton AM Radio
* Rear Seat Speaker
* Black Vinyl Roof
* Tinted Glass - Complete
* Deluxe Belts / Warning Lights
* Black Leather Bucket Seats
* Medium Lime Metallic Paint

It all starts with the body that sits in a factory-correct Dark Aqua Metallic paint ( Original Med Lime Metallic ). Combine that shade of blue with the black touches throughout and you have a stunning ride. It starts with the nose of the car that features the famed Cougar logo on the passenger side of the grille. Within the aggressive hood scoop are the markings of what lies under the hood: 351 4 - BBL. The car is both menacing and luxurious. Down the side of the car you have new stainless steel rocker moldings adding to the bold statement this XR -7 makes. At the back of the car is the XR-7 logo above a body wide rear taillight that displays new bezels.

Pull the hood on this ride and you will reveal one nicely detailed engine bay. Stuffed into the engine compartment is a new crate engine which only has aprox. 1k miles on it..Many of the components inside the engine bay still have the vintage tags on the components. Like the Autolite battery that states, “Need water only 3 times a year!” The block, air filter, and other smaller components are covered in the famous FoMoCo blue and look fantastic against the black engine bay. Bolted to the engine is the FMX select shift transmission. From the transmission the power travels down the driveshaft to a 3.00 conventional rear axle.The power steering system has also been rebuilt with new pump and slave cylinder. The detailed crate engine sits on new motor mounts along with a new power brake booster, new master cylinder, braided stainless brake hoses, new proportioning valve, and new trans cooling lines. The sometimes problematic headlight system has been converted to electric which makes cruising at night never a issue.

The XR-7's entire front end has been rebuilt with new control arms, tie rod ends, strut rods, springs, idler arm, roller spring perches. The rear springs were replaced as well. Spent gasses travel out the stock manifolds and through dual exhaust to create a nice rumble. At all four corners you will find gray styled wheels that have been wrapped in new BFG radial T/A rubber.

Open the doors to the XR-7 and you'll be greeted by a vibrant black interior that accents the aqua exterior quite nicely. The interior looks just as good as the day it rolled off the showroom floor. The front seats were treated to new foam and covers. Power steering, power brakes, and the automatic transmission make this Cougar a dream to drive. Cougar and XR-7 logos are present on the floor mats, on the dash, and the most unique in the center of the steering wheel. To the left of the driver is the remote driver mirror, while in front is the dash that features a gas, speedometer, RPM, oil pressure, and water temperature gauge. In front of the passenger is an analog clock and more Cougar XR-7 badging. Your favorite tunes come from a digital AM/FM radio. Behind the two front seats are two additional bucket seats.

Inside and out this Pony car impresses. From the highly detailed engine bay to the correctly detailed trunk compartment you will see fine detail. Throughout the entire car it seamlessly blends power and performance with luxury and comfort. Documented with a Marti Report, owners manual, and miscellaneous receipts really make this XR - 7 unique. And as we all know unique cars are always hard to find.Don't miss your chance to own this incredible 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7. Give us a call to add this XR-7 to your collection.
