1970 Nova 396/375 L78 - 24K Actual Miles Born With Drivetrain!

Chevrolet's Chevy II Nova grew from a mild-mannered compact aimed at the budget buyer into fire-breathing giant killers like this 1970 L78 Super Sport. One of only 3,765 L78 Nova Super Sports built in 1970, this Nova was built to punish the pavement. Optioned with the matching-numbers big-block 396 CI engine in L78 specification, this 375 HP high-performance powerplant was the most potent offering in the Nova in model-year 1970. The drivetrain is completed with it's matching-numbers Muncie M21 wide-ratio 4-speed manual gearbox mated to it's matching-numbers G80 Positraction rear end differential. It is factory equipped with power-assisted front disc brakes and heavy-duty F41 suspension.

Part sleeper and part showboat, this 1970 Nova SS is presented with a single repaint in brilliant Cortez Silver. Optioned with power brakes and an AM radio, its blacked-out grille, finned simulated hood intakes, SS badging and simulated front-fender louvers were standard SS fare, accompanied here by Super Sport wheels wearing BFG tires and SS center caps. With only 24k actual miles on the odometer, the interior is all original except 1 bench seat recover and we have the original as well. There was 3 interior broadcast sheets found inside the car. All the exterior LOF glass is original and in pristine condition. The original spare & jack assembly still resides inside the trunk. This Nova L78 was found parked in a garage in Secaucus NJ were it sat since 1974. The engine was rebuilt and runs out very strong. In the muscle car world it is very rare to find a high horsepower car like this that still retains it's original born with drivetrain.

The big-block Nova of this era held a sacred spot to the knowledgeable few in the Bowtie performance world. Many muscle car fans were unaware that the Nova was substantially lighter than its big brother Chevelle. Since the Nova was a post coupe of unibody construction, it was hundreds of pounds less in weight than the hardtop Chevelle with body-on-frame construction. Equipped with an equal drivetrain, the Nova was definitively faster. It also fell below the radar screen of the insurance companies, who considered the Nova a grandmother's grocery getter, unaware that big-block examples were the scourge of the quarter mile and the local match races across the boulevards of America.
