1970 Pontiac GTO Judge - 400 Ram Air III 5 - Speed Documented!

The dawning of the Seventies signified a turning point for muscle cars. Though some models at GM reached their performance peak in 1970 due to the parent company finally permitting engines exceeding 400 cubic inches, many other factors were in play that would quell enthusiasm and sales in the coming years. Insurance-rate hikes, pressure from safety groups, and tightening federal emissions and crash standards were just a few. Not even the originator of the species—the GTO—or its upmarket Judge were immune to the forces that conspired against muscle cars.

Ever hear the old saying “That's a horse of a different color”? This documented 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge is literally and figuratively “a goat of a different color”. With a good list of optional equipment, which even includes the WT1 package, it shatters the preconceived notion that muscle cars have to be big block strippers. And with its refreshing Palisade Green and Green color combination, it ends the irrelevant assumptions that Detroit's premier muscle car builders couldn't make anything without bathing it in neon paint. If you're in the market for an investment grade muscle car that's as much fun to drive as it is to show, there's no place like the cockpit of this rare GTO Judge!

Production shows just 124 built w/WT1, 4bbl RA, and M13 transmisison.

This documented GTO Judge was the recipient of a high dollar restoration aprox. 10 years ago. Powered by a 69 400 engine, backed by an upgraded Tremec 5 - speed transmission, geared with a 3.55 rear axle. Engine components are RAIII intake, RAIII heads, RAIII manifolds and a rebuilt Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. Equipped with power steering, factory front disc brakes, F41 suspension, RAM AIR, Pushbutton AM radio, Hurst shifter with T handle, front & rear spoilers, aux. trunk light, factory tachometer, wood steering wheel, deluxe seat belts w/ shoulder belts, door edge guards, color keyed rubber floor mats, remote driver mirror. At the corners are rally II wheels with wide oval tires finished off with PMD center caps. Inside the trunk you will find the correct splatter paint, trunk mat and a correct spare & jack assembly.

Drive this GTO up on a lift and you'll really begin to appreciate the amount of time spent on its restoration. Solid satin black floors, which appear to be original, ride above a clean frame that's held together with new hardware. Traveling up and down those floors is fresh fuel and brake lines that run to either a new galvanized fuel tank or correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. In the middle of the chassis an upgraded 5 - speed sends power through a fresh detailed driveshaft to a freshly marked 10 bolt rear end. The car's double A-arm front and four link rear suspension has been restored and features correct variable ratio power steering, newer shocks and correct GTO sway bars. An aluminized true dual exhaust system lines up with factory replacement mufflers to create one of the toughest exhaust notes in the classic car hobby.

Overall, this GTO Judge is a nice wholesome muscle car that has ownership history going back 50 years. The " not the norm " color combination makes this car unique to any 70's era collector. The Palisades green paint is in good overall condition with some blemishes on the roof. The interior is in excellent condition and shows really well. All the chrome, stainless, and glass are in great shape. The car has a great fit and finish. Besides the 50 years of ownership there are 4 binders filled with PHS documents, build sheet, manuals, literature and many receipts. This Judge was sold new from Hollomon Pontiac, Inc in Hampton VA.

This is definitely a very nice GTO that we have featured, and most folks who love muscle cars will agree that 1970 is a high-water mark in terms of styling, performance and exclusivity. With its detailed restoration and RAM AIR V8 engine, nothing will interfere with this car being both a weapon on the street and a winner in the show field!
