You read about it in Car Craft and Popular Hot Rodding. Maybe you saw one at the drag strip and or the local cruise. Dealers didn't know much about it. In fact, it wasn't even listed in the showroom brochures or the standard dealer sales albums. "It" was RPO L78. Although it was a total mystery to most dealers, those who knew the magic option code could buy the meanest, most powerful big-block in the Chevelle arsenal

This 45,600 mile LeMans Blue 1969 L78 SS396 Chevelle has been in good hands the last 15 years. The previous owner has only put aprox. 1,000 miles on the car since 2005. A recipient of a very nice ground up restoration in 2003 this Super Sport held up extremely well. The 396/375 HP engine was rebuilt and runs out strong. The engine breaths through a pair of ceramic coated headers matted up to a dual aluminized exhaust system. A 4 - speed transmission and a 12 bolt rear axle back up the solid lifter engine. This Chevelle is equipped with power front disc brakes and power steering. Inside you will find the factory blue bucket seats with a center console hosting a Muncie shifter. The car is equipped with it's 6000 RPM L78 tachometer and gauges. The original AM radio has been changed to a AM/FM cassette player. ( original AM included ). The interior is in excellent shape and still retains the blue GM seat and shoulder belts. Pop open the trunk and you will find a very well detailed area with correct splatter paint and trunk mat which accent the correct spare & jack assembly. Underneath this Chevelle matches the top of the car. Overall, this 1969 Chevelle Super Sport has been well restored and well kept and is ready for it's next caretaker!

Part of the L78 SS396 package was the F41 heavy-duty suspension. The F41used firm springs, a large stabilizer bar and firm shocks up front, along with a four-link coil spring rear configuration with firm shocks. The rear lower control arms were boxed by a plate welded across the sides for reinforcement. A rear stabilizer bar was bolted to the inner sides of the control arms. The upper arms were braced to handle the massive torque of the L78. The optional 14x6 sport wheels with F70x14wide oval bias belt tires put a wide footprint on the ground, however they'd go up in smoke when the wood was laid to the L78.
