1966 Pontiac GTO Coupe - 389 Tri - Power Engine 4 - Speed Transmission Restored!
By 1966, Pontiac designers were hitting on all eight cylinders, and their GTO was one of the hottest-selling muscle cars in the country. The styling on the knockout '66s is both elegant and aggressive, perfectly defining the line that the GTO constantly straddles all-out performance car or gentleman's express? It didn't matter, because when you put a 389 under the hood and top it with three deuces, add a 4-speed manual, and then back that up with a safe-t-track rear, it's practically a guaranteed home-run. This lovely '66 GTO hardtop has had a ground up restoration and well cared for since it was completed. Stunning aesthetics and with a proper built WT-coded engine, it's a fantastic car to show and drive this summer.
Finished in the stunning Palmetto Green with a black Cordova vinyl top and black interior, this gorgeous 1966 Pontiac GTO two-door hardtop has been well cared for since undergoing a ground up restoration. It features WT-suffix built 389 aluminum head Tri-Power V-8 engine with a Muncie close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear axle. The 389 Tri-Power was rated at 360 HP at 5,200 RPM, with 424 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM. It featured a 10.75:1 compression ratio, was fed by a trio of 2GC Rochester 2-barrel carburetors and exhaled through a dual exhaust system.
In addition to the performance-oriented powertrain, this GTO also features power steering and power disc brakes, Strato bucket seats, a wood steering wheel, center console with Hurst shifter, pushbutton AM/FM radio, manifold vacuum gauge, and the later chrome Rally II wheels with Uniroyal Tiger Paw radial tires. It is obvious that this modestly optioned machine was built for maximum performance, with less emphasis on creature comforts.
